Magnetic properties of body-centered tetragona iron/iridium superlattices
Andrieu S., Bobo J.-F., Hubsch J., Piecuch M.
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials 126 (1993) 349

We have prepared (100) oriented iron-iridium superlattices by MBE. For thin iron layers we obtain a bct phase (body-centered tetragonal) with a c/a ratio equal to 1.25, corresponding to a strained fcc Fe structure. This phase is found to be nonmagnetic at room temperature. However, thermomagnetic measurements evidence a transition to ferromagnetic order at low temperature.
